I know I've talked about this before, but if you don't know about ebooks you're missing out on something amazing. While ebooks will never replace actual books, they are extremely convenient, easy to get to, and can go anywhere your phone goes.
Okay, here's why you should get into ebooks.
1. They're almost always cheaper than actual books. Need a better reason? Well, there's four more below.
2. You can read them from your phone, or ipad, or any ereader or PC at home. No excuses not to read.
3.You can get a plethora of free or cheap books. Pixel of Ink and Ereader News Today are the top lists. Be careful. You'll have a hundred books in your queue before you know it!
4. They go where your phone goes, on any plane, bus, car, train or boat. Everywhere.
5.They don't take up any room. It's all digital and fits in the palm of your hand -- or almost, anyway.
While I love, love books, i.e. the smell of them, they way they feel, the hoards of them on your bookshelves in your library, there is something remarkable about being able to fit thousands of books on your phone or ereader. And remember, you don't need a Kindle to read Kindle books. Just download the Kindle app to your phone, PC or IPad or ereader.

While you don't need an e-reader, it's much more pleasant to read on one of them than on a phone. And while I still love my paper books, I now prefer to read on my Kindle; it's easier on the eyes.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an e-reader - mostly because I get motion sickness on anything moving including a plane - but my mom has one and really likes it :) At the moment I just use real books but maybe in the future I'll use an e-reader :)
ReplyDeleteI have Kindle on my PC, a few freebies, and one craft book I bought for 99 cents, I think. Not crazy about reading from a screen, but it's cheap and you don't have to dust it! :)
ReplyDeleteI like pretty books for my shelves, but I prefer reading ebooks. And for #1, I would say that is almost always true, but there are a few ebooks I've found that are more expensive than the hardback/paperback versions. It's rare, but it does happen.
ReplyDeleteI love paper books and I have four shelves full of them, but at the same time I love my Kindle and reading e-books. There's something about not having to wait for a book to be delivered or drive to the store. One click and I have a new book. :) It's really great! I've also discovered some great self-published books that I wouldn't normally find in a story. E-books are also great for taking on vacation. My Lord of the Rings books take up too much room in a suitcase, but on my Kindle they are perfect. :) Great post, Heather!
ReplyDeletealthough i do love books and do not download books or own a nook or kindle--the absence of my husband's many books, does strongly appeal to me
ReplyDeleteI have several hundred downloaded on my Nook Color, but I can't bring myself to pay for many - most of them were free downloads. I still prefer physical books. Thanks for stopping by my blog today - I'm now following another great blogger!

I agree with you there. I love my Kindle and have downloaded some excellent free books on it. I love that the books are cheaper and it's so convenient to read in bed, especially with the Kindle cover that has an attached reading light.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!
I have discovered some great authors I would not have otherwise found, thanks to the 1500+ freebies I have for my Kindle apps. I may give in and get the Kindle Fire with some of my free Amazon gift cards. But I do alternate between several physical books and the digital ones.
